What are the better apartments to rent near UC Irvine?

Posted by admin on May 4th, 2010 and filed under apartments for rent | 1 Comment »

I am a college freshman at UC Irvine looking for apartments for next year’s housing. However, I don’t really know what apartments are the better choice around UCI. I’ve heard mixed reviews about certain apartments. I’m currently looking at the Cornell Apartments, but I’m still looking for other choices, preferrably not too expensive. Any suggestions? Thanks! =]

I’ve lived at Cornell and Berkeley apartments. Personally, the good thing about them is that it is located near the campus and almost everyone there is students – so it’s easy to meet people and chill at other peoples place. Bad side is parking can get a little crazy sometimes. (You only get one car port).

I’ve also lived at Windwood Knoll which is a few miles away on Culver street (near Sam Woo and 99 Ranch). It’s cheaper rent, lots of stores near by, a park, close to the Irvine library, basketball court, swimming pool and a bus stop that takes you close to UCI, ect. There is no real negative, except that there are more families than students living in that area.

    Good luck

Where Can I Find Cheap Apartments For Rent?

Posted by admin on April 28th, 2010 and filed under apartments for rent | 6 Comments »

I’ve tried all the big websites, apartments.com, rent.com, mynewplace.com, but they all seem to only have the big name apartments on there which are all expensive. I’m looking in the area of Burbank, CA and I just need something like an efficiency but one that’s under 700. So if you know any websites or apartments please let me know :) :) Thanks.
Ok I see what you guys mean, basically you have to sacrifice one or the other. Well thank you for answering the question :) I know how annoying it can get when people ask questions that you assume they should already know haha. Thanks:)

Generally it’s quite difficult to find a single in an ok area under $900, or a one bedroom under $1200. Usually rooms to rent in homes cost the same as singles and come with a lot of problems and rules.

While some of the buildings listed online are the expensive fancy buildings, not all of them are. Often the big buildings have very small apartments so they can rent them at lower prices compared to other similar buildings with larger units. Or they have singles, which can go for $200 – $300 less than a one bedroom. So the apartments you’re seeing on the low end are likely really on the low end for the area.

The best thing to do is to cruise the neighborhoods and look for signs if you’re not finding any listings. It isn’t necessary for many landlords to run ads for the older smaller buildings, usually they’ll find tenants through neighbors or their current tenants, so they just put up signs in the yard. But it’s going to be really really tough to find something under $700. Maybe in the valley (like Van Nuys, North Hollywood) you could find a single for $700, but even that would take a lot of looking.

It’s hard finding a single in a nice older (so usually cheaper) building, because mostly those type of buildings didn’t have singles, they have one bedrooms. The kinda icky old large buildings usually in the downtown areas did have singles, but a lot of those were torn down and businesses were built.

Did you try craigslist? http://losangeles.craigslist.org/apa/ Be careful though, lots of scams.

    Good luck!

What is the best web site to find apartments for rent in London–for long term rental, i.e. one year +?

Posted by admin on April 26th, 2010 and filed under apartments for rent | 1 Comment »

I am looking to relocate to London, but every time I google search for appartments for rent I get a million sites for short term rentals but very few for long term . . . and the few that have long term rentals have very few listings. Any help with this would be great. Thanks!

Probably the best site to use is www.gumtree.com. It contains a large number of flats (we don’t call them apartments over here), either flat shares or non-flat shares, furnished or non-furnished for most pretty all areas of London. It’s pretty much the site which most Londoners, including myself, use.
