Increasingly, con artists are using it as a tool to defraud people and craigslist.com doesn't police it very well. It ranges from referring to an apartment on West 120th Street or higher as the Upper West Side when it's Harlem, to flatly planning to con people into sending money overseas for apartments that don't exist. I have heard that people looking for roommates can have good success there though.
